HOLY BIBLE

1. We believe the Holy Bible, the Authorized King James Version 1611, is the pure, perfect, and preserved Word of God. It is given by inspiration of God, and therefore, inerrant and infallible. The Word of God is the final and sole authority in all matters of our faith and practice.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21.

GOD

2. We believe God, the one God in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. He is a Spirit, Creator, Sovereign, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient.

Deut. 6:4; Matthew 28:19.

3. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, true God and true man. He is eternal, born of a virgin, sinless, bodily resurrected, forever glorified, and the only begotten Son of God.

Luke 1:30-35; John 1:1-15; 1 Timothy 3:16; 1 John 5:20.

4. We believe the Holy Spirit is God. He is a Person, Who convicts man of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He is received by a Christian at salvation and is their Guide and Comforter.

John 16:7-14; Eph. 1:13.

MAN

5. We believe that man was created in the image of God, fell through sin, and brought physical and spiritual death into the world. All mankind inherited a depraved nature and has become totally sinful in word, deed, and thought.

Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:10-23.

SALVATION

6. We believe salvation is by grace through the faith of Christ alone. It is not by works, not of works, and no more of works. A person must hear the preaching of the gospel of the grace of God, believe that Christ died for his sins, was buried, and rose again, and call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. The believer knows that he is saved from sin and hell, regenerated and sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, and eternally secured in the love of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9; 1:13; Titus 3:5; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 8:38-39; 2 Timothy 1:12.

CHURCH

7.
We believe the church is made up of all believers baptized into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. We believe that a local church is a group of believers baptized by water and united together for evangelism and edification as commanded by Christ through Paul, the Apostle of the Gentiles.

1 Corinthians 12:13; 1:2; 11:1,2.

8. We believe the ordinances given to the local church are two:Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is by immersion into water, thus portraying the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper is the partaking of the bread and cup by the believer as continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of Christ until He returns.

Romans 6:3-4; 1 Corinthians 11:2,23-26.

9.
We believe in the separation of Church and State with each having definite and distinct spheres of responsibility.

Matthew 22:17-21.

CHRIST’S RETURN

10. We believe in the pre-tribulation rapture of the church and the personal, pre-millennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 5:9; Revelation 19:11-20:4.

INDIVIDUAL ACCESS

11. We believe that every believer has direct access into God’s presence without the need of a human priest and has the right and responsibility to personally study and interpret the Scriptures, in the light of God’s truth found therein, and in the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

1Timothy 2:5; 1 Corinthians 2:11-13; 2 Peter 1:20-21.

RESURRECTION AND JUDGMENT

12. We believe in the resurrection unto eternal, blessed life for the saved, and the resurrection unto eternal, conscious damnation for the lost. Heaven is a real place, and Hell is a place of literally eternal fire.

Daniel 12:2; 1 Thessalonians. 4:13-18; Revelation 20:5-16; Matthew 25:41.

13
. We believe that Satan is a person, a spirit being, and the author of sin. He and his angels shall be eternally punished.

Ezekiel 28:13-17; Isaiah 14:12-15; Revelation 20:10; Matthew 25:41.

SEPARATION

14
. We believe that Neo-orthodoxy is a way of compromising the Word of God by using a higher scientific criticism. It is false and is used to deceive many by appearing to be true but actually rejects many of the important Bible doctrines.

1 Timothy 6:3-5, 20; Colossians 2:8.

15
. We believe that Neo-evangelicalism brings born-again people into compromising position by yoking up with liberals and modernists in so-called Evangelistic or Christian campaigns. We believe it is wrong for any Christian to be engaged in this kind of work.

1 Corinthians 6:14-17.

16
. We believe the ecumenical movement is an unscriptural movement whose goal is to bring about a unity of all religions and faiths into a worldwide church. We also reject the modern tongues and healing movement. We believe it is wrong to take any part of this organization.

2 Corinthians 6:14,17; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12.

17
. We believe that songs used in worship must be doctrinally sound and distinct from that of the world. We reject the paganistic drum beat of Gospel rock, the worldly compromise in most contemporary Christian music (CCM), and the ecumenical spirit of the so-called “Praise and Worship” movement.

Ephesians 5:10, 11, 19; Colossians 3:16.

RIGHT DIVISION

18. We believe in rightly dividing the word of truth, an approach to Bible study acknowledging the different dealings of the unchanging God with people living in different dispensations.

2 Timothy 2:15.

19. Calvary Baptist Church accepts the Holy Scriptures as its authority in all matters of faith and practice. Its understanding of Christian Truth as contained therein is in accord with the belief of Independent, Bible-Believing Baptist Churches as indicated in their statement of faith.
